NANO ZINC OXIDE APPLICATIONS
Zinc oxide nanoparticles are extensively used for cosmetic applications as they help scattering and absorbing UVA & UVB rays. These nanoparticles show antibacterial, antiallergic and deodorant properties, allowing its use in sunscreen lotions. They are also used in a host of other creams and ointments that are used to treat skin diseases. Positive benefits have been demonstrated with the application of ZnO for treatment of diseases like cancer and against bacterial infections in agriculture, water treatments and cosmetics.
Zinc oxide possesses unique semiconducting, optical, and piezoelectric properties. Thanks to its low toxicity and biodegradability, ZnO nanoparticles are suitable for biomedical applications, such as biomedical imaging (which includes fluorescence, magnetic resonance, positron emission tomography, as well as dual-modality imaging), drug delivery (due to their large surface area, versatile surface chemistry and phototoxic effects, among others), gene delivery and biosensing of a wide array of molecules of interest.
In the field of surface coatings, nano ZnO can be used in the chemical composition of paints since it allows corrosion prevention while maintaining the flexibility and adhesive properties of coatings for years. Thanks to its ability to absorb ultraviolet light, it improves the resistance of the paint since it makes it waterproof and antibacterial against many compounds present in the atmosphere such as sulfur compounds.
Zinc oxide nano is also having a lot of success in the construction, ceramics, lubricants and rubber industries. In the latter it is used to improve heat conductivity and dissipation of tires when they are in motion, consequently increasing their average life time.
