NANO COPPER OXIDE APPLICATIONS
The demand for nano copper oxide has witnessed tremendous growth driven by the penetration in electrical and electronics, paints and coatings, semiconductors, energy storage, catalysts and other applications.
Nano Copper Oxide, thanks to extraordinary physical-chemical properties is a widely used material resulting in improved performance of end-products.
Cu-based nano-catalysts include many applications such as catalytic organic transformations, electro-catalysis, and photocatalysis. It has been applied in the production of superconducting materials, thermoelectric materials, sensing materials, glass and ceramics.
Nano copper oxide can be used as rocket propellant combustion catalyst as it significantly improves the homogeneous propellant burning rate, lowering the pressure. It can also enhance catalytic properties of composite propellants. Example of applications as photocatalyst include: hydrogen generation from water, CO2 reduction, photocatalytic self-cleaning and plasmon-induced organic transformations. Therefore, nano copper oxide has some very unique and advantageous properties including its ability to promote the formation of hydrocarbons in CO2 electro-reduction and its potential for C–C bond formation in CO2 reduction processes.
Enhanced catalytic properties of copper nanoparticles make them suitable for applications in biosensors and electrochemical sensors. These nanoparticles have the ability to make the redox reactions reversible and to lower the over-potentials when applied to the sensors. They represent a good catalyst for different cross coupling reactions, too.
Nano copper oxide is found to be an effective anti-microbacterial agent, suitable for biological applications.
These nanoparticles are insoluble in water and dissolve slowly in alcohol or ammonia solution. Instead, they are soluble in dilute acids, NH4Cl, (NH4) 2CO3, potassium cyanide solution.
More applications include the production of: ceramic resistors, gas sensors, magnetic storage media, near-infrared tilters, photoconductive and photo-thermal applications, solar energy converters, high-tech products.
